The Arduino ARINC 429 shield was designed to test aircraft actuators, replacing an expensive USB verion, this project costs under £100 GBP to build (most of that cost is the IC).

The Arduino ARINC 429 shield is based on the HOLT Hi-3595 ARINC driver IC and the Arduino Uno R3 board. The HOLT IC is driven through the SPI bus of the Arduino and transmits and receives ARINC 429 words which are passed from and to the Arduino USB serial port. A status LED is provided to give indication as to the operation of the ARINC 429 shield. Connections to the UUT are made through a 25 pin male D connector on the board.

Schematic capture and PCB layout was designed in EasyEDA and arduino source code was developed within the Arduino IDE. It uses the arduino SPI library to communicate with the Holt IC.

Arduino ARINC429 Shield
This SEPIC (Single-ended primary-inductor converter) power supply was designed to replace an existing DC-DC convertor for cost reduction purposes.

The module has excellent EMC performance and delivers ±15V DC outputs @ 350mA and a 3.3V DC output @ 700mA with a wide input range from 8V – 75V DC.
SEPIC Power Supply
The Modus RTU module was designed for use in elevator control systems. The module supported 2 x 1A open collector outputs and 2 x optically isolated inputs. Upto 61 modules could connect together with selectable device addresses set by DIP switch.

The design used standard CAT5e patch cables to link together. LED indicators are to show power and active data.

The source code written in ANSI C runs in an AT Mega 8 microcontroller and power is provided from a switching buck regulator allowing an input voltage between 5 – 40V DC.
Modbus RTU
The module plays (WAV) sound files stored on a micro SD card when a corresponding positive air pressure switch is activated. I designed the complete product based on the clients specification, taking the clients requirements and producing a design document.

From that I was able to design the schematic then PCB and mechanical enclosure. Once all of that was designed I wrote the firmware which runs everything, developed on an Atmel AT Tiny MCU

The design uses 8 differential pressure sensors with their outputs feed instrumentation amplifiers, the analogue output value is read by an ADC internal to the MCU.
Product Design
This is a strait forward PCB design. This particular board was a 4 layer high density and used in an automotive application to control a BLDC motor. I designed the PCB in Mentor Graphics PADS 9.5 which is my preferred package although we can also design in Protel, Cadstar and DIP Trace too. We can design from single layer to 10 layer and can offer professional PCB production from 1 to large volume runs. Please contact us if you require more information.
PCB Design
Hardware and software design for a 1x6 telephone switch, it would take 1 incoming line and allow 6 extensions plus a door intercom. It offered audio caller display, direct dialling of extensions and voicemail.
